“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty… to provide new Guards for their future security.” - Declaration of Independence

25 Freedom Movement Constitution Scholars, Authors, Publishers & Activists Endorse Continental Congress to Convene in November

Planning Meeting at Jekyll Island Includes Setting the Historic Record Straight For Privately Owned Federal Reserve Bank

JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – An unprecedented gathering of the nation’s Freedom Movement leaders was held at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel on May 21st and May 22nd. The planning meetings, coined the “Jekyll Island Project,” were hosted by We The People Foundation for Constitutional Education, Inc., chaired by Bob Schulz.

A highlight of the gathering was a special ceremony held in the Federal Reserve Room at the Club, specifically to establish a “righteous record” in the place of the secretive deliberations which occurred there in 1910 to conceive the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.

Beyond the timely relevance of such an effort, the two day meeting focused on gaining input about, and support for, the concept of convening a modern day Continental Congress “to document The People’s record of our Constitutional crisis and develop a viable, cohesive set of peaceful activist strategies to cure the cancer of despotism that now threatens the nation.”

Twenty-five leaders articulated the long list of Constitutional violations currently under way to collapse the Republic, through well-documented information provided by each representative organization, along with action plans to confront the violations. Unconstitutional threats of increasing concern to the American people included RFID technology, transportation choke points, illegal surveillance, undeclared wars, labor taxes, international treaties, individual and state sovereignty, election fraud, unsound money, firearms legislation, sustainable development and the new world order agenda.

Leaders agreed that the time has come for a united front in defense of the Constitution, acknowledging the challenges that have historically prevented the Freedom Movement from coming together and achieving mass support. First on the agenda for joint cooperation will be the 2009 Continental Congress, which received unanimous approval and pledges to create awareness, share resources and promote participation across all fifty states and the District of Columbia.

Since last December, We The People Foundation has been promoting CC2009 as a viable project framework worthy of embracing, in order to address all the Constitutional issues facing the Nation. “The greatest governing documents ever given to mankind are here in America -- our Declaration of Independence, our Constitution and our Bill of Rights. Unless the people stand by them and ensure they are realized and followed by holding our elected officials accountable, they become pieces of paper subject to our whim and the crisis of the moment,” said Schulz.

“Our Constitution is not a menu from which to pick and choose. Every part is connected. If one part is ignored or violated, it erodes all parts. The American people are waking up now to what is taking place and are beginning to see clearly what is at stake. If the rights of free men in America are lost, then they will be lost everywhere. And I am confident the American people will not allow that to happen,” he stated.

“This two week long Continental Congress is how the full record of the government’s violations, and repeated dismissal of our petitions for redress of these grievances will be broadcast to the world. With the sanction of the Declaration of Independence and the citizens of their states, free men will plan the proper and appropriate courses of action that will peacefully restore our Republic,” concluded Schulz.

The precedence for a Continental Congress, history of the people’s right to “petition the Government for a redress of grievances” from Article I in the Bill of Rights, the list of petitions filed since 1992 by We The People, and proposed delegates structure for the CC2009 can be viewed and shared by clicking here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/15568819/Continental-Congress-2009-Slideshow

The meetings culminated with lively debate about the proposed CC2009 delegate nominee criteria, the decentralized process for each state to openly and autonomously elect its own delegates, potential meeting sites and dates for the event, marketing and advertising support, and time lines for newly established planning committees to continue collaboration.

The unified leaders of the Freedom Movement are now focused on educating and motivating Americans to take similar action during this constitutional crisis and get involved as volunteers, delegate nominees and ultimately cast their own ballot to send delegates from their state to the CC2009. To assist with this awareness campaign, work is now underway to create a film documentary about the historic gathering on Jekyll Island. A release date just prior to July 4th is planned.

Below is a list of the 25 leaders in the Freedom Movement that participated and their organizations.

Dear Bob:
Contrary to rumors circulating in some quarters, I do not oppose in principle the idea of a new “Continental Congress” (or like effort), at which patriotic Americans could review the fundamental principles of our Constitution, catalogue violations of the Constitution by rogue public officials, and propose sound strategies for enforcing the Constitution in the future. To be credible and effective, however, any “Continental Congress” must operate according to carefully and clearly defined standards. To wit,
(1) The delegates who are selected must, first and foremost, be thoroughly knowledgeable about, and personally committed to the enforcement of, the Constitution and laws of the United States, as well as of their own States.

(2) The delegates must be selected by a thoroughly democratic process, involving the broadest practical segment of the population in each of their States and Localities.

(3) The delegates must be men and women well known and respected within their communities, with unblemished reputations for honesty, integrity, prudence, foresight, and the courage of their convictions.

(4) The delegates must be open to a full, fair, and frank discussion of all credible points of view, with the goal of creating a documentary and testimonial record of indisputable facts from which to draw legal conclusions and upon the basis of which to propose responsible courses of political action. The delegates should be bound by no rigid prior agenda that they must follow, no
preconceived conclusions to which they must agree, and no unalterable plans for future actions that they must adopt. All decisions of the “Continental Congress” as a whole must be made by open and recorded roll-call votes.

(5) The delegates should assemble a staff of recognized experts in American history, constitutional law, political science, economics, and other relevant disciplines to assist them in their
deliberations, as well as secretarial personnel to make and provide for the retention of complete and accurate records of the proceedings.

(6) The delegates should set as their goal the identification of solely those parts of the Constitution (including its Amendments) the immediate enforcement of which is critical to the
preservation of America as a sovereign, independent, free, and prosperous republic, and then focus on precisely how such enforcement is to be accomplished in the most expeditious manner, and according to the prudential principle “first, do no harm”. When possible, a proposal that can be put into operation in one State at a time, and gradually refined and perfected on the basis of that experience, should be preferred to a proposal that requires a single, massive, and likely unsustainable nationwide effort.

(7) The delegates should entertain no proposal whatsoever for enforcement of the Constitution and laws that even arguably violates the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, or the laws of the United States or of the several States made in pursuance of the Constitution. Indeed, any proposal that advocates the violation of law—and particularly any proposal that advocates or otherwise involves the incitement or employment of actual violence—should constitute sufficient grounds for expulsion from the “Continental Congress” sine die of any delegate, expert, or other party in attendance who sets it forth. To implement this requirement, at the commencement of proceedings the delegates should select from amongst themselves one or more “law officers”, with recognized expertise in that field, to provide guidance on the legality of any proposal placed before the “Continental Congress”.

No doubt other useful standards could be added to this list—and because this is your project, you must make the final determination as to what may be necessary and proper. But at least it is a reasonable beginning.

Finally, as I do for all men and women of good will who labor on America’s behalf, I wish you well in your work.

Edwin Vieira, Jr.
